William F. O'Donnell

William F. O'Donnell, 57, a resident of Mentor on the Lake for 25 years, formerly of Gates Mills, passed away July 21, 2014.

Bill was born in Cleveland Ohio on January 25, 1957. He grew up in Gates Mills, Ohio and graduated from Mayfield High School in 1976. He was a certified Diesel Mechanic and enjoyed working on and racing his Cuda. Bill worked in construction most of his life, first building log homes in Newbury/Chardon Ohio, and building other houses and remodeling homes in Lake and Geauga counties in Ohio. He was one of crew members sent down to help rebuild Homestead, Florida after Hurricane Andrew destroyed the city in August 1992. He lived at his home in Mentor on the Lake for over 30 years with his devoted dogs Nina, and Jennie. He had many friends and neighbors in the area he considered family and would open his home for and would do anything for them. Many will fondly remember him as a big-hearted, intelligent, hard-working, dedicated, generous person who was always ready to help. Bill's favorite hobby was watching and following the Nascar racing circuit.

Preceded in death by his father, Leonard; brother, Kevin; grandparents, Lillian (nee Gath) and Leonard O'Donnell and Frederick and Laura (nee Allen) Tighe; he is survived by mother, Veronica "Roni" (nee Tighe); sisters, Patricia A. Elton (husband of Steven); nieces and nephews, Veronica M., Rebecca A. and Andrew S. Elton and Loretta Michalski (husband Paul). He was the nephew, cousin and friend of many.

Prayers of Christian Burial Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial following at All Souls Cemetery, Chardon, Ohio. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Bill Friday, 4 to 7 p.m. at DeJohn-Flynn-Mylott Funeral Home of Willoughby Hills, 28890 Chardon Road (between Bishop Road and Rt. 91).
