Helen F. Stansfield

Helen F. Stansfield, 102, of Ashland, formerly of Akron, passed away Wednesday evening, July 30, 2014 in the Good Shepherd.

She was born on August 9, 1911 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Wilson A. and Pearl E. (nee Heft) Stansfield. Following her high school graduation, Helen earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Akron University. She retired from Akron City Schools after more than 38 years, where she taught physically handicapped students.

Helen was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church in Akron. She also was a lifetime member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society. Throughout her retirement, she enjoyed playing cards in a card club and was an active member of a garden club. She also was a member of the W.E.A., O.E.A., and SCRTA.

Helen is survived by a niece, Barbara Stansfield of Ashland and a great-niece, Heather Stansfield of West Benton, Ohio. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Stansfield and a nephew, Dennis Stansfield.

Funeral service will be held Monday, August 4, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the Lutheran Village Common Area, 330 Davis Road, Ashland, OH 44805, with Pastor Julie Thoms, Chaplain officiating. Interment will be at the Glendale Cemetery in Akron. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 263 East Mill Street, Akron, Ohio 44308.
