Raymond E. Dietz

Raymond E. Dietz, 86, passed away on July 30, 2014. He was born in Bridgeport Connecticut, raised in New Jersey, and lived his entire adult life in Akron.

He served in the U.S. Army, earned an engineering degree from Stevens Technical Institute, and worked for Firestone for over 40 years.

Preceded in death by his mother, Johanna Levine; Ray is survived by his wife, Joann, who he was married to for 60 years; sons, Russell Dietz of Hudson, Dale (Cathy) Dietz of Akron; granddaughter, Kelly (Scott) Nelson of Akron; sister-in-law, Carrie Lou (Bill) Stone of Virginia; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Ray was a patient, loving, and selfless man. He was a dedicated member of Trinity United Church of Christ, he played the saxophone for seventy six years, was an avid bowler and golfer, and volunteering was important to him. His favorite charities were Project Learn, The Red Cross, and Trinity Evangelism.

Funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, August 3, 2014 at Trinity United Church of Christ, 915 North Main Street, Akron with Rev. Dr. Carl Wallace officiating. Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the church. Internment will be at Sunset Hills Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
