Sheila Anne Maher, age 75, passed away Friday, August 1, 2014 at Sunrise of Cuyahoga Falls after battling Alzheimer's disease. Her friends and family will miss her faith based guidance, her love and support, her sense of humor, and of course, her warm smile. She proved to be an excellent role model to everyone whose life she touched.
Sheila was born December 11, 1938 in Queens, New York to the late Joseph R. and Anne (Ayers) McCarthy.
She graduated from St. Joseph's College with a bachelor degree in Education. Sheila was a Community Educator for the former CYO Adult Day Services. She was a faithful member of Holy Family Parish.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Russell E. Maher, and her brother, Gerald McCarthy.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen (Michael) Wise; her sons, Michael (Jacilyn), Timothy (Virginia), and Terence (friend Amy); grandchildren, Justin Wise, Allison, and Matthew Maher; and her sister, Patricia (John) Vozab.
Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Dunn-Quigley Funeral Home, 3333 Kent Rd. in Stow. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Church, 3179 Kent Rd. in Stow. Interment at Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman at 1:15 p.m. on Thursday.
