Norma Jean Long

Norma Jean Long, age 87, passed away at her home on Sunday, August 17, 2014 with her family by her side.

She was born on June 7, 1927 to the late Albert and Thelma Fortenberry. Jean was a Registered Nurse who had a special touch for caring to all in need. She was a long time member and active in the Westgate United Methodist Church and later the Cypress Wesleyan Church. Jean enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, gardening, listening to music and raising children. She truly loved and cared for her family and had a special bond with her loving sisters, Bonnie and Juanita.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Roland Long and daughters, Marcia Swisher and Jennifer Passias. She is survived by her children, Rebecca Whitley, Edwin T. Long (Donna Valentine), Barbara (Ken Scalapino) Long; grandchildren, Aaron Swisher, Emily Passias and Aaron Brennan; her great-grandchildren, Riley, Quinn and Sawyer; sisters, Bonnie Ciccolini and Juanita Barber.

A Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Cypress Wesleyan Church, 377 Alton-Darby Creek Rd., Galloway, Ohio, Reverend Dale George officiating. Inurnment at a later date in Akron, Ohio at Rose Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jean's memory may be made to Central Ohio Parkinson's Society, 2800 Corporate Exchange Dr., Columbus, OH 43231.
