Walter L. Rorar, 77, of Akron, passed away August 20, 2014.

Walter was born in Wood, Pa., on April 5, 1937 to the late Thomas and Margaret Rorar. Walter served in the U.S. Air Force as an airplane mechanic. He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company after 36 years of service. He was a member for many years of the Knights of Columbus, Moose, MAPS, Hibernians Club and St. Matthews Church. He enjoyed spending his free time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed traveling, reading, walking, and volunteering at Stewart's Caring Place and Camp CHOPS.

Walter will always be remembered for his big infectious smile and his ability to make everyone he met laugh.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marion and grandson, Walter Anthony Rorar. Walter is survived by his daughter, Aileen (Michael) McDonald; sons, James (Melissa) Rorar and Michael (Jen) Rorar; grandchildren, Mikayla, Meghan, Melanie, Erin, Kennedy, Sean; significant other, Mary M. Waugh; and many other family and friends.

Family and friends may call on Monday, August 25 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Matthew Church, 2580 Berne, Akron, with Fr. Mike Williamson presiding. Interment to follow at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
