Evangelist Faye Mays "Candy Apple Lady"|
Evangelist Faye Mays "Candy Apple Lady" born November 22, 1942 in Minden, W.Va., was peacefully called home to be with the Lord on March 9, 2009.
She had been a member of the community since 1960 and was employed at Akron Children's Hospital for 39 years. Faye was a faithful member of Grace Apostolic Ministries serving as a Sunday School Teacher, Minister, Outreach Missionary, and Psalmist. She also served as a choir director over many choirs.
Faye had a way of making everyone smile no matter how bad their day was going. She had such a pleasant spirit that even while selling her apples throughout the whole city of Akron, she was still able to do what she did best, which was spread the gospel and tell of her testimony. She had a gift of reaching and touching the hearts of everyone who came into her life. She made everyone feel special and loved.
She was preceded in death by her father Terry Arthur Jr. and stepfather Will Harper. She leaves to mourn her passing mother, Rachel Harper; sisters, Antoinette (Samuel) Ford, Stephanie (Darrell) Jones, Deborah Hannah, Minni (Cain) Connalley, all of Akron, Ohio, Demetrius (Frank) Smith, of Springfield, N.J., and Carol Arthur of Chicago, Ill.; brothers, Ernest Harper, Archie (Pamela) Harper, Mark Harper, Willie Harper, and Thomas Harper, all of Akron, Ohio; daughters Yvette Mays, of Charlotte N.C., Yvonne Mays, of Akron, Ohio, Linda Mays, of Detroit, Mich.; sons, Carl (Tracy) Mays, of Akron, Ohio and Paul (Linda M.) Mays, of Alliance, Ohio. She also leaves to mourn her 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends; and special friend Patricia Odesky.
Homegoing services will be held Saturday, March 14, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Livingstone Apostolic Church, 587 S. Arlington St., Akron, Ohio 44306, Pastor Paul Mays eulogizing and Bishop William Smith officiating. Interment Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may visit at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service.
