Richard Hart Mayfield

Obituary Condolences

Richard Hart Mayfield, born in Akron, Ohio on April 16, 1920, entered eternal life on November 24, 2009 in Garden Grove, California.

He graduated from West High School, attended Akron Univ., enlisted in the Air Force after Pearl Harbor and later graduated from Wharten School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania. In later years, he also attended the University of Nevada at Las Vegas pursuant of a Masters in Music. During World War II, he flew 67 missions and was highly decorated for his bravery and service to his country. He worked primarily in several areas of finance, and also studied piano with Cy Walter in New York and played piano nationally. His favorite venues were NanTucket and the Virgin Islands. He and his wife Eileen spent most of their married life in Las Vegas and Orange County, California.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen; his parents, Fred A. and Margaret Mayfield; his brother, Capt. Fred A. Mayfield, Jr.; his sister and brother-in-law, Lewis M. and Julianne Mayfield Oatley. He is survived by his neices and nephew, Rev. Susan and Roger York of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Juliannne and Richard Ream and John and Jennifer Oatley of Sanibel Island, Florida and Sallye Oatley of San Anselmo, California.

Graveside services with Military Honors were held on December 3, in California.
