Salvatore A. "Sam"

Salvatore A. "Sam" Rinella, 83, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, after a brief bat tle with cancer.

Sam was born in Akron on May 26, 1920, and was a lifelong resi dent of the Akron area. He was a veteran of World War II and served overseas in England, France, Ger many, and Scotland. Known for his sense of hu mor, Sam was always ready with a quick story and laugh, smiles, and a quick punch.

He was a longstanding member of the Italian American Businessmen's Association as a self-employed painter/paperhanger and building contractor. Sam was a charter member of Immaculate Heart of Mary parish in the Falls and a member of the Sicilian-American Club. Sam was very proud of his Sicilian heritage.

Survivors include daughter, Delores (John) Bloom of Stow; sons, Tony (Betty) of Cuyahoga Falls and Ronald of Cuyahoga Falls; sisters, Katy of Seattle, Wash., Ida and Martha, both of Cleveland; grandchildren, Tony (Elena) and Lisa, both of Cuyahoga Falls, Tara and Cassidy Anderson of Rhode Island, Larry and Janice Anderson of Mantua, and Andrea (Keith Rightley) of Cuyahoga Falls; great-grandchil dren, Cassidy, Emily, and Abby; several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at Hennessy-Bagnoli Funeral Home, 936 N. Main St., Akron. Fr. Jonathan Zingales will officiate. Mil itary honors by Firestone Post 3383 and balloon tribute will follow on the funeral home grounds. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
