Charles J. Snyder Obituary
Charles J. Snyder, age 95, of Akron, currently of Canton passed away peacefully Thursday, October 7, 2010.

Charles was born in Massillon, Ohio to the late Floyd C. and Annie (Jarvis) Snyder. He was a 1933 graduate of Massillon Washington High School and had attended Michigan State University where he was a proud member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. On January 6, 1940 he married the love of his life, Mary Ellen Lerch. They then moved to Burbank, California where he went to work for Lockheed Aircraft, and where he remained employed for the duration of the Second World War as Chief Tool Designer.

Following the war Charles came to Akron and went to work with his father at Ace Rubber Products where he remained president and owner until his retirement in 1994. Charles was a parishioner of St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Akron. He was a member of the Akron Jaycees, Exhausted Roosters, W. Akron Kiwanis, Fairlawn Country Club, Akron City Club, Turkeyfoot Island Club, and the No Name Club.

In addition to his parents; Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen in 1997; his sisters, Carolyn, Barbara, and Ruth, and a step-brother, Richard Purinton. Charles is survived by his sons, Charles J. (Susan) Snyder of Ridgewood, N.J. and Floyd C. ``Chris' (Linda) Snyder of Canton, Ohio; three grandchildren, Ann Marie (Gary), David (Sara), and Michelle Barnaby; six great-grandchildren, Isadora, Daniel, Audrey, Eric, Robbie and Jacqueline, and his step sister, Flora Louise Lawler.

The measure of a man can sometimes be judged by his friendships. Charles had many friends through out his life but more importantly he was a good friend to many.

A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday; October 19th at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Akron, 1361 W. Market St. with Rev. David Pumphrey officiating. A private interment will be held for the family in Massillon Cemetery. Cremation has taken place.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Landing of Canton for the care they gave to Charles with special thanks to Beth and to Opal.
