Obituary Condolences

Fred F. Fuerst, 76, of Fripp Island, died peacefully at home December 22nd.

He was the son of the late Fred and Alberta Fuerst of Akron, Ohio.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Ann. He is also survived by their three children, Kathleen Carney (John) of The Reserve, S.C., Nancy Rand (Benjamin) of Orchard Park, N.Y., and Lt. Col. Richard Fuerst (Julie) of Jacksonville, N.C.; loving grandchildren, Kelly, Alex and Emily Rand and Joshua, Melissa and Anna Fuerst; brothers, John of North Clinton, Ohio and David of Akron, Ohio.

Fred was a 1952 graduate of Central High School, Akron, Ohio and a 1956 graduate of Heidelberg University, Tiffin, Ohio. He did graduate work at both the University of Rochester and Springfield College.

He was a YMCA Director for 34 years and was on the National YMCA Staff as well as being CEO of the Akron Metro YMCA for the last 17 years before retirement. He helped to restore the downtown YMCA which was dedicated in 1987.

He retired to Fripp Island in 1992 and served as president of both the Property Owners Assoc. and Men's Golf Assoc. Fred was a volunteer with the Fripp Island Fire Dept for 15 years and .active in establishing the Beaufort YMCA.

A memorial service will be held at The Fripp Island Chapel on December 29th at 1 p.m. with a reception held at the Community Center adjoining the Center. Memorial gifts may be made to the Akron YMCA Endowment Fund, 1209 Main Street, Ste. 501, Akron, Ohio 44308. Copeland Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.
