Frank R. Hanzel M.D. Obituary
NEW FRANKLIN -- Frank R. Hanzel M.D., 87, passed away February 15, 2011 at his residence surrounded by his family.

He was born in Barberton, Ohio and was a decorated World War II Navy veteran and also an Army veteran serving as a Medical Doctor during the Korean Conflict .

Dr. Hanzel was well know in the Manchester community with his private practice for thirty years and then as the Assistant Director of Barberton Area Family Practice Center until his retirement. He was a member of the Summit County Medical Society, a charter member of Academy of Family Practice and member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.

Dr. Hanzel was preceded in death by brothers, Robert and George; sisters, Margaret Binford, Marie Hanzel, Antoinette Hanzel and Frances Anderson. He is survived by loving wife, Jean; daughters and sons-in-law, Marcia (Dr. Benjamin) Pearson, Marilyn (Michael) Taffe, Melissa (Timothy) Midura; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Kathy Hanzel; brothers, Albert and Edward Hanzel; grandchildren, Jeanne (Geoffrey), Janna, Benjamin III, Derek, Colt, Rudolph and Grace; step-grandchildren, Gregory and Lisa; great grandson, Jeremiah; and two step great-grandchildren.

Funeral Mass of The Resurrection will be Friday, February 18, 2011 at 1 p.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 4019 Manchester Rd. with Fr. G. David Bline officiating. Interment will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday 3 to 8 p.m. at House of Eberhardt Funeral Home, 472 W. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd. (SR 619). In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations may be made to Magic City Kiwanis' Ester Ryan Shoe Fund, 3837 Brookside Dr., Norton, OH 44203 or Hospice of Visiting Nurse Services, 3358 Ridgewood Rd., Akron, 44333.
