Mary Christine "Chris" Landers Obituary
Mary Christine ``Chris' Landers, age 63, of Copley, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2011, surrounded by her family.

She was born on Feb. 18, 1948, in Akron, the daughter of Milton and Elizabeth Auble Combs. She resided in Orrville for seven years, until her family moved to Akron. Chris graduated from Firestone High School in 1966, and Akron General Hospital School of Nursing, where she received her degree as a registered nurse in 1970. She began her career at Akron General Hospital, then served with Visiting Nurse Service of Akron for nearly 30 years. She consistently treated her patients with an extra dose of empathy and kindness, and always greeted them with her fabulous smile.

Chris enjoyed traveling, collecting antiques, gardening, cooking, music and needlework. She was a Cleveland sports enthusiast and enjoyed attending Eagles concerts. Animals were an important part of Chris' life. She always had pets and was known for rescuing animals in distress. Her family and friends appreciated her fun-loving nature and terrific sense of humor. Chris was proudest of her role as mother to her three children and her unconditional love for them was always evident as she was clearly their biggest fan. Her children, in turn, devoted themselves to supporting Chris' indomitable spirit, which never wavered during her journey over the past two years. Chris was a beautiful person who will be missed by all those privileged to have known her.

She is survived by her children, David, Kathryn and Brian Landers of Copley; mother, Elizabeth Combs of Akron; sister and brother-in-law, Karen Clarke and Marty Rogol of Jupiter, Fla.; brothers, Craig Combs of Thousand Oaks, Calif. and Keith Combs of Akron. Her father, Milton Combs, and stepfather, David Ellis, preceded her in death.

Chris' family will welcome friends at a Celebration of Life reception on Saturday, March 5, 2011, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Fairlawn Community Center, 3486 S. Smith Rd., Fairlawn, 44333. In lieu of flowers, her family would appreciate donations to the Halo Nurse Program at Akron General Development Foundation, 400 Wabash Ave., Akron OH 44307; or One of a Kind Pets Rescue, 1929 W. Market St., Akron OH 44313. Auble Funeral Home in Orrville is assisting the family with arrangements. Online registry and expressions of condolence may be left at the funeral home web site at:
