Elder Fred Douglas Gary

On Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at 2 a.m., Elder Fred Douglas Gary heard the voice of the Lord to come to eternal rest.

Elder Gary was born August 27, 1913 to the late Major General and Savanna Stevens Gary in Little Eye, Arkansas.

His formal education was in the Public Schools of Pulaski County. On January 7, 1947 he received salvation and the Baptism of the Holy Ghost under the late Bishop O. E. Shelton and was a faithful member of Lods Street C.O.G.I.C. and Shelton's Temple C.O.G.I.C. Elder Gary was a faithful member of New Life Christian Center C.O.G.I.C. under the late Elder Bruce Hodoh and presiding pastor Melvin Carlock. He had also been the Local Sunday School Superintendent and the Barberton District Sunday School Superintendent.

He leaves son, Fred David Gary (Gwen Kight); one daughter, Ethel (Stewart) Satterwhite; sister, Gertha Jones; six grandchildren, Emone Satterwhite Smith, Emon (Angie) Satterwhite, Paul Gary (P.D.), Tiffany Gary, Fred Gary Jr. and Paul Andre Gary; 17 great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held Sunday, May 22, 2011 at 5 p.m. at Unity Holiness Ministries C.O.G.I.C., 1019 Harpster Ave., with Supt. A.C.S. Walker officiating and Elder Melvin Carlock, Pastor New Life Christian Center C.O.G.I.C. eulogizing. Friends may call at the church on Sunday from 4 p.m. until time of service. Interment Monday at 9:30 a.m. at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to 641 Cuyahoga St., Akron 44310.
