Derek Dodd Obituary
Born in Akron, he was a lifetime area resident and was a stagehand for I.A.T.S.E. Local #48, where he enjoyed many close friendships with his union brothers and sisters. His interests were reading, drawing, and taking nature walks.
He is survived by his parents, Duane and Joanne (Conti) Dodd; brother, Dana (Mary) of Akron; nephew, Devin Dodd; and many loving aunts, uncles, and other family members.
Calling hours for family and friends will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Mother of Sorrows Church, 6034 S. Locust Street, Peninsula, 44264. Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m., with Father John Terzano as Celebrant. Private burial at Northampton Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Community Support Services, 150 Cross Street, Akron 44311. (REDMON, STOW, 330-688-6631)

i remember,
a boy,rushing to be a man.

no nonsense,but willing to share what he had.
just before our paths separated,we got to know each other a little better.
learned of our shared love of the of the written word,it was at this time that he committed an act of kindness i will never forget.and one he would be embarrassed to have been thanked or acknowleged for.
i remember the boy rushing to be a man,i consider it a great loss not to have been there when he arrived.

We are deeply saddened by Derek's untimely passing. He will be greatly missed by a lot of us. D was a very special man with an absolute heart of gold. I always looked forward to walking in any venue and seeing him. We both had a love of knives and D would often sharpen mine for me. Going to work will never be the same.

Derek was one of the first people I met when I first started working at Blossom Music Center in 1988. He was always funny and made me laugh. I will miss him sincerely.
