Gary L. Pinion

Obituary Condolences

Gary L. Pinion Obituary
Today, February 10, 2012, I had to say goodbye to my hero. He was born February 5, 1949.

In April 1968 he joined the United States Army. He was an E5 by December 1968. In April 1969 he left for Vietnam. July 8, 1969 forever changed his life. He was in an armored vehicle "Tracks" when it hit a land mine. His Lt. said he should've died that day. He didn't. He fought to get home. He then had multiple surgeries to repair his injuries. I was born in 1973. He always told me he wanted a girl. He loved me more than anything that Corvette might come close! Even though my parents divorced when I was young, I never went without my father's attention, time, or love. In fact I was spoiled rotten! He saw me graduate high school. He put me through college (until I decided to marry Johnny before I was finished) but that was ok. That is a lesson I can teach my kids! Before walking me down the aisle, with tears in his eye, he said "goodbye Miss Pinion". He danced with me to "Daddy's Hands" at our wedding reception. He also loved his three wonderful (and also spoiled rotten) grandchildren! What can I say, I learned from the best! He is no longer in pain or lonely or suffering. Today I know he went to see Jesus because Kaylynn told him to. He's also back with his daddy. What I'm happy to think about is the fact that for the first time EVER, he can finally see me! He has his sight again! I hope he's pleased that I look like him! If you know a vet, thank them. They are definitely unappreciated except by those who love them. Thank you Daddy, I love you. I will always miss you. You will always be my hero!

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Lynn Pinion. He is survived by his mother, Helen Pinion; daughter, Lynette (John) Glockner; grandchildren, Brianna, Kaylynn, and Austin Glockner; sister, Sharon (John) Rabb; nephews, Tim (Tami) Dunn and Mark Dunn; great-nieces, Savannah Dunn and MyKayla Dunn; great-nephew, Hayden Dunn.

Friends may call at Bacher Funeral Home, 3326 Manchester Rd. on Monday, February 13, 2012 from 5 to 8 p.m., where services will be held Tuesday, February 14th at 10:30 a.m. Tim Stevenhagen officiating.
