Nancy Carr Obituary

Nancy J. Carr (nee Richardson) died on March 16, 2012 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.

She was born on February 12, 1919 to Howard and Emily Richardson in Lorain, Ohio, and lived there until leaving to attend Denison University and Carnegie-Mellon University. She worked as an executive secretary for Oberlin University and the Falk Foundation. In 1953, she married Will Carr, and moved to Mentor-on-the-Lake, where her daughters Judith and Lisa were born. After the girls entered primary school Nancy trained for a second career as a primary school teacher, eventually teaching at Brentmoor School in Mentor, Ohio. After she and her husband retired they moved to Lake Mohawk in Malvern, Ohio, where they lived for 25 years. For the past 12 years she had resided at Stow-Glen Retirement Center in Stow, Ohio.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and husband, and is survived by her brother, Bill Richardson; her daughters, Lisa Hesse and Judith Carr and their husbands; two grandsons, Kerry and Keith Martin; and four great-grandchildren.

Nancy never lost her sweetness and ability to respond to others. She is now in heaven with Will, getting ready to go to a dance, and being trailed by her cats Bonnie, Baby and Willie.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the chapel at Stow-Glen, Birch Hall, 4285 Kent Road, Stow, Ohio, on March 30 at 1 p.m., Pastor Kim Barnett officiating. Donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 70 West Streetsboro St., Suite 201, Hudson, OH 44236.

Many thanks to her caregivers at Stow-Glen and to her guardian angel, Attorney David Culbertson.
