John Marshall Sawyer Obituary
AKRON -- John Marshall Sawyer, 82, passed away Sunday, June 24, 2012 after a long illness.

John was born in Dedham, Mass. on Oct. 18, 1929 to Samuel S. and Ruth M. Sawyer. He went to Cushing Academy in Ashburn, Mass. and went to college at West Virginia Wesleyan with a chemical degree.

John loved life and wanted to be busy at all times. He worked and retired from Goodyear.

After he retired in 1987, John was recommended to be part of the International Executive Service Corps, a division of the Peace Corps. He and Dorothy went on an eye-opening, five-week experience in Columbia to provide managerial and technical assistance to private enterprises there.

After retiring he was a school bus driver in Hilliard, Ohio. He loved traveling, square dancing, walking at the mall, hiking, sailing, playing poker, snorkeling, playing softball with Silver League, Goodyear Breakfast, gardening, dinner with friends, and camping in younger years. Even did some good cooking. Played hockey at Cushing and was involved in all sports.

John was married to Dorothy for 40 years. They met in college. They had a wonderful life. They adopted two children, Graham Richard Sawyer and Jocelyn Roebuck. He married Gloria in 2003. They were friends for 50 years.

John sailed in Australia in Sidney Harbor and Tampa Bay in Fla. That was his heart's desire. He square danced for 42 years. He belonged to Wa-Hoo and Western Whirlers and many other clubs in his life. He was active in local, statewide and national events.

He loved traveling, going to the Holy Land, California, and the Grand Canyon, and down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. He took many cruises. He went to Australia 4 times. His last trip was to England and France with his two children. His desire was to go his brother's graveside and have a service for him.

Preceded in death by parents, wife, Dorothy; and his brother, Joe Sawyer, he is survived by Gloria Sawyer; son, Graham Richard Sawyer of Akron; daughter, Jocelyn Roebuck (Rabbi Gary) of Chatswood, Australia; and three grandchildren of Australia, David (Sarah), Shoshana, and Aaron.

A special thanks to Falls Village Retirement and all his nurses, caregivers and everyone for their assistance and compassion.
