Harvey E. Beckwith Sr., 92, passed away July 17, 2012 in Ocala, Florida. |
He was preceded in death in 2002 by his loving wife, Phyllis, to whom he was married for 61 years.
Harvey was born in Akron and lived there until he moved to the Medina area where he resided for over 40 years. He is a former member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Medina and St. Emilian Byzantine Church in Brunswick. He has lived at On Top of the World, a retirement community in Ocala, Fla., since 1993 and was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
Harvey graduated from Howard Trade School and served in the Army during World War II.
He worked for Brown-Graves Lumber Company in Akron for 47 years. Harvey was a member of the Medina Knights of Columbus Council 4168. He also was a member of the Joseph O'Keefe Assembly, where he served as Comptroller and as the Faithful Navigator. Presently, he is a member of the Joseph J. Bender Assembly, Wadsworth. He was also a member of the Order of the Alhambra.
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Elizabeth; brother, Leslie; and in 1946, his first son Harvey. He leaves his son, Richard of St. Louis, Mos.; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Gary Barth of Brunswick, Ohio; daughter and son-in-law, Esther and Rick Brenneman of Woodstock, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law, Harvey and Dianne of Medina; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Anne and Jack Stinehour of Jeannette, Pa.; son and daughter-in-law, George and Karen of Leesburg, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Bret Wood of Mount Dora, Fla.; sister, Marie Moore of Barberton, Ohio; brother, Raymond of Kent, Ohio; sisters-in-law Virginia Tripoli and Mary Beckwith; grandchildren, Donald, Michael and Scott Rearick, Heather Brenneman, Erin Lewis and Travis Beckwith, Jennifer Spiaggi and Lisa Stinehour, Rachel and Hannah Beckwith, and Morgan and Marshall Wood; eight great-grandchildren, and loving family and friends.
Harvey shared the last six years with Beatrice Willa, his dedicated companion. He also had a special friendship with her two sons, Dan and Ron Willa and their families.
Friends may call Monday 4 to 8 at the Ciriello and Carr Funeral Home, 39 S. Miller Rd., Fairlawn, OH 44333, where funeral services will be held at 10:30 on Tuesday. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of Marion County, P.O. Box 4860, Ocala, FL 34478 or the St. Bernard's Landmark Fund care of the funeral home.
