October 27, 2012
Reverend C. Edward Carter (Ed) went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 27, 2012 following a short illness.
Surrounded and held in love and prayers by his family, Ed's soul and spirit moved from his physical presence and continued his journey through eternity bathed in the light and everlasting love of his God, and joining with the souls of his loved ones.
Born Jan 30, 1935 in Akron, Ohio, he was a long term resident of Tallmadge, relocating to Uniontown in 2007. Ed served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army as a Chemical Corps instructor at Fort McClellan, Ala. After his honorable discharge, he joined the Chemical division at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. In 1982, God called Ed to the pulpit. He entered Ashland Theological Seminary and embarked on a ministry career serving the First Congregational Church of Tallmadge as Pastor for over two decades. After retiring from the First Congregational Church, he moved into a HR position at the Community Drug Board, working to provide outreach programming to the community for over eight years. He continued his pastoral career with The First Congregation Church of Newton Falls. He later shared his passion for helping people as an integral member of the management team at Neofill, LLC, working to support and enhance employee's lives. His heart was always close to the people who give so much in the Police and Firefighting community and he was honored to be the Chaplain for both the Tallmadge Police and Fire Departments.
Ed's legacy extends beyond his rewarding career. He touched the lives of so many. He truly never knew a stranger. Consistently living his faith through the challenges of daily life, in doing so he taught us to love and care for one another, find joy in living, delight in the wonders of our world, believe in the power of forgiveness and redemption, treasure our time together, and live life passionately.
Ed is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Carol; his son, Scott; daughters, Julie and Michele (husband Jim); his brother, David (wife Marsha); grandchildren, Josh, Zach (mother Debbie), Samantha, Sydney, Andee Lyn, and Derek; and his beloved canine companions, Maggie and Max.
We would like to extend a special thank you to the dedicated and caring staff at the Critical Care Unit at Akron City Hospital who gave our father and our family such exceptional care and great comfort during his time there.
Funeral service will be held 9 a.m. Friday, November 2, 2012 at First Congregational Church of Tallmadge, 85 Heritage Dr., Tallmadge, with Rev. Dr. John Schluep officiating.
