James J. Barbiere Obituary
James J. Barbiere, 95, of Mentor passed away Thursday Dec. 6, 2012 at Hospice House of the Western Reserve in Cleveland with his family at his side.

He was born May 25, 1917 in Pottsville, Pa. He was a lifetime resident of Lake County. He was the beloved husband of the late Anita (nee Borrelli); loving father of James J. Jr. (Sherry) of Willoughby, Janice J. (Bill) Schrag of Cuyahoga Falls and Joan J. (Bill) Houston of Sanford , N.C.; cherished grandfather of Karen and Chris Barbiere, Daniel (Sarah) Schrag, Jacob Banes and Gretchen Houston; great-grandfather of Marie, Ben and Anna (deceased); son of the late Adam and Filomena (nee Santella) Luciani; brother of Carmen Luciani of Willoughby and Theresa Fatica and Maggie Wilbur (both deceased); and uncle of many loving nieces and nephews.

James was noted in the community as an artist, gardener, woodworker and a dedicated perpetual adorer at St. Mary's Adoration Chapel. He also was a gourmet chef who provided his family with three course meals ending with homemade pies and cakes. What he had he generously shared with others. He loved golfing and Cleveland sports teams. He graduated from Wickliffe High School and furthered his education at the Cleveland School of Art where he was selected to use his talents for Walt Disney. He chose his family and hometown instead. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Europe and Africa and most recently took part in "Honor Flight". He retired from Cleveland Twist Drill as a machinist and was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Mentor.

Family will receive friends at the McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral, 38001 Euclid Ave., Willoughby 3 to 8 p.m. Monday. Funeral Mass, St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Mentor 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. Fr. Tom Elsasser will officiate. Burial Mentor Cemetery.
