Paul Lanham Williams passed away December 9, 2012 after a courageous battle with Type 1 Diabetes which had lasted more than 50 years. |
Paul grew up in Steubenville, Ohio graduating from Steubenville High School in 1948, where he played varsity baseball and basketball and was president of his class.
He proudly pitched in the College World Series for the Ohio State University in 1951, was president of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and graduated from Ohio State in 1952. He remained an avid fan of OSU sports all his life.
Paul was drafted into the Army in 1952 during the Korean War. He then worked for Firestone Tire and Rubber Company for 38 years, retiring as manager of corporate accounting. He was co-founder of the Firestone Credit Union and served on its Board of Directors for over 50 years.
He is a long time resident of Fairlawn and served on the zoning board for several years. He was a member of St. Hilary Catholic Church since 1962.
Although Paul lived many years with numerous complications from early onset diabetes, he was never one to complain and somehow always retained a positive spirit and his sense of humor.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Lorraine, his three sons Chris (Holly) of Brunswick, Gary (Laura) of Broadview Heights, and Rob (Joanna) of Scottsdale, Arizona. He also leaves behind 10 wonderful grandchildren - Bethany, Matthew, Benjamin, Marie, Michelle, Paul, Mark, Kevin, Becky and James.
Also missing Paul very much are sisters, Kay Bechtel of Findlay and Bev (Ken) Barker of Fairlawn; brother, Charles (JoAnn) of Brilliant; sisters-in-law, Shirley (Dave) Stofka of Cuyahoga Falls, Beverly Phillips of Stow; brothers-in-law, Frank Phillips and William (Ramona) Phillips of Highland Park, Illinois and many nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends Friday December 14 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the CATAVOLOS FUNERAL HOME 3653 W. Market St., Fairlawn. Funeral services will be held Saturday 10:30 a.m. at St. Hilary Church, 2750 W. Market St. (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH) Entombment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Paul's name to Haven of Rest Ministries, 175 E. Market St., Akron, OH 44308.
