On February 5, 2013 God sent his angels to usher Luther Bowers Sr. to his heavenly home.|
He was born on June 25, 1926 to the late John and Mattie Bowers.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Louvenia; parents; three siblings; and a daughter.
Luther was raised in South Akron and attended Akron Public Schools. He met and married Louvenia at a very young age. To this union five children were born.
Luther served in the Army after his Honorable discharge from the military. He was employed by the Atlantic Foundry, retiring in 1985 after 40 years of service. He loved the Lord and was a member of New Millenium Baptist Church. He enjoy bowling watching football, planting tomatoes and landscaping his yard.
He is survived by this children: son, Luther Bowers, Jr. of Detroit Michigan; daughters, Doris Smith of Glendale, Maryland, Janet Bowers of Akron, and his devoted daughter and caregiver, Darlene Washington; sisters, Florene Richardson and Delores Carter of Akron; sister-in-law, Mary Bowers of Akron; brothers-in-law, Willie Evans and James Carter of Akron; and a host of nieces and nephews whom he deeply cherished. A special thank you to Sabrina Goley and Latoni Clark, his devoted caregivers, Dr. Armao and Visiting Nurse Service of Akron, Ohio.
Friends may call on Friday, February 8, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Sommerville Funeral Services, 1695 Diagonal Rd., Akron, OH 44320. Homegoing Service will immediately follow, Pastor B. Williams, Eulogy and Pastor Vincent Peterson officiating. Interment at Glendale Cemetery. Procession will form and condolences may be sent to 228 E. Lods Street, Akron, Ohio 44304.
