Leanna Thomas, 86, went home to be with the Lord on March 31, 2013.|
Leanna was born on April 30, 1926 to the late Lemual Johnson and Willie Mae Johnson in Gosport, Ala., and had been an Akron resident for over 55 years.
She loved God and her family and was a member of United Baptist Church. Leanna volunteered for the Prison Ministry as well as the Haven of Rest Ministry. She enjoyed cooking and gardening. Leanna had the honor of carrying the Olympic Torch in the 1992 Olympic Torch Relay.
Leanna was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Thomas; brothers, Charles Johnson of Mobile, Ala., Arthur Johnson of Akron, Ohio; sisters, Eloise Frazier of Mobile, Ala., and Claudia Smothers of Akron, Ohio. She leaves to cherish her memory, sons, Marvin (Cheryl) Thomas and David Bruce Thomas; daughters, LaDora (James) Couch, Josephine (Dwight) Jones and Jeanette Thomas (Gregory); sisters, Resta Keiser and Rosa Maclin of Atlanta, Ga.; brothers, Amos (Barbara) Johnson and Dethory Johnson of Mobile, Ala.; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank the staffs of Dr. Bonyo, Akron City Hospital, Summa Hospice Service, as well as Amy and Trish for taking such good care of our mother. Thanks also to Stewart and Calhoun Funeral Home.
