Allan Johnson, Jr., 87, of Akron, died Friday, March 22, 2013.

Born in Akron on Bastille Day, July 14th 1925, he was the son of the late Allan Chalfant Johnson Sr. and Katharine Baird Johnson and the husband of Mary Dure Johnson.

He graduated from St. Paul's School, Concord, N.H. in 1944, and went on to graduate magna cum laude from Harvard College in 1947, where he was an elected member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. He attended Harvard Law School, and upon graduation, returned to Akron, achieving the highest score on the Ohio bar exam in 1949. He was a Senior Partner at Buckingham, Doolittle & Burroughs in Akron, Ohio where he practiced trusts and estates law for more than 50 years. He was an honorary lifetime member of the Ohio Bar Association. He served as treasurer for the Akron Community Foundation Trusts and was a member of the Mayflower Club, Portage Country Club, and the South Conway Club. He enjoyed biking, skiing, canoeing, traveling through France, and spending his summers in South Conway, New Hampshire with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Dure Johnson; his four children, Katharine Johnson Mears (South Woodstock, Vt.), Anne Johnson Hurt (Scottsville, Va.), Alicia Johnson Spearman (Round Pond, Maine), and Allan Johnson III (Bath, Ohio); four step children, Page Bullock, Sarah Nix, Henry Bullock, and Madelene Wilson; grandchildren, Anne, Katharine, and Keeler Mears; Charles, Travis, Thatcher, and Olivia Hurt; and Reed, James, Chandler, and Henry Spearman. He was well cared for in the later part of his life by his caregiver Traci Cole.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Katharine H. Johnson in 1921 and Carol Johnson Boynton in 2012.

There will be no calling hours, however, a memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Saturday, April 6, at noon, with Rev. Mark J. Pruitt officiating. A private interment will be held at Glendale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

I'm so sorry about your dad. I didn't even see the name in the obit - just his glasses and I knew it was him!! I remember great times sneaking through the fence at Fairlawn to your backyard. We had a lot of fun in those days. You have my prayers and sympathy now.
