Hattie L. Sanders Bourn, born March 3, 1931, went home to be with the Lord April 22, 2013 after a lengthy illness. The Lord said it was time and took her into his arms.|
She was a wonderful mother, sister, grandmother and friend to all those around her. Born in Heidelberg, Mississippi to the late Ruff and Hanna McCormick, she found the Lord at an early age and was baptized at First Baptist Church of Heidelberg, Mississippi. To keep her faith strong with God, she decided to be baptized again by Rev. Horace Drake at Good Shepherd Baptist Church.
She came to Akron when she was twenty years old, and was employed with Alan and Imperial Cleaners, The Hilton Hotel, and later working at Broadview as a dietician for 24 years, retiring in 1992. Hattie enjoyed being around family, cooking, and traveling. Before leaving Mississippi, she married John A. Sanders, and much later wed her second husband, Johnny J. Bourn.
She was preceded in death by mother and father; late husbands, John A. Sanders and Johnny J. Bourn; eight brothers; two sisters and two nephews. She leaves to cherish her memories, daughter Carol Sanders; sons, Johnny Pryor and Lonnie Sanders; sisters, Vernell Hughs (T.J.), Virginia Hughs, Wilma Venton; sisters-in-law, Jessie McCormick and Amanda McCormick of Akron; grandchildren, Shawnea, Cyee, Jaeonte, Zoey, and Michael; goddaughter, Sheila Holmes; godson, Marvin Strickland; and a very close and dearest friend, Mrs. Stella Hall. A very special thanks to caregivers, Mrs. Betty Lewis, Moses McCormick, family, Akron General Hospital, Visiting Nurse, Hospice and a host of other relatives and friends.
