Eugene G. Boettler, age 81, passed away Friday April 27, 2013 from Alzheimer's Disease. |
Eugene was a life-long resident of North Canton, and was the son of the late C. Glenn and Harriet Boettler. He graduated from North Canton High School and Kent State University, and did post-graduate work at The Ohio State University. Following college graduation he served in the U.S Army as a training officer at Fort Dix, N.J. His professional career included five years at Goodyear Aerospace in Akron, followed by 28 years as a teacher at Green High School in Summit County. Eugene was a member of the National Honor Society of Secondary Schools and received the Rosely Kohler award for teaching excellence in 1978, and was inducted as a member of the Green High School "Wall of Fame" in 2003. Eugene was a long-time and active member of Zion United Church of Christ, a past member of the North Canton Cemetery Board, the East Central Ohio Technology Association, and the North Canton Jaycees from which he received the past-presidents' award in 1980.
Eugene is survived by Marilyn Boettler, his wife of 58 years; and his children, Connie (Helmar Storm) of Virginia, David, Michael (Clair) of Bay Village, and Susan Cecil; loving grandfather of Brigid, Brendan and Kevin Boettler, and Duke Cecil; brother of James (Betty), and Charles (Darlene) of Colorado.
The family will receive friends at the Reed Funeral Home North Canton Chapel, 801 Pittsburg Ave. NW on Tuesday, April 30th from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial service at Zion United Church of Christ, 415 North Main St., North Canton on Wednesday, May 1st at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Gary Smith officiating. Family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service. Private burial at North Canton Cemetery.
