Kenneth Lee Layman, 97, of Kent, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at Summa Western Reserve Hospital in Cuyahoga Falls.|
He was born March 1, 1916 in Kokomo, Ind. to Roy L. and Maude E. (James) Layman. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the United Methodist Church of Stow and the Stow VFW.
Ken was a loving, caring, giving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was the District Commissioner of Boy Scouts, Royal Oak, Michigan. He was an artist who loved to paint, an avid fisherman and his favorite pastime was cruising with his wife, Betty, especially to Russia and surrounding countries.
He is survived by his wife, Betty A. (Sizemore) Layman, whom he married on March 1, 1986; stepsons, Kevin Sizemore and Jeff (Mary Kay) Sizemore; daughter-in-law, Patti Layman; grandchildren, Kevin (Kristin) Layman, Cody Sizemore, David Duering, Karen (Bryan) Corless, Arica Flores, Heidi (Cary) Kroll, Jennifer (Wade) Wood and great-grandchildren, Kenneth and Gabrella Layman, Austin, Nathan, and Grace Corless, TJ Duering, Matthew and Rachel Flores, Paige Kroll, Cole Wood. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Layman; son, Kenneth Layman; daughter, Diana Duering; and his brothers, Arthur, Webster, Francis, and Murwood Layman.
Calling hours will be held 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 4th at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home, 628 West Main Street, Kent, where funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., with Rev. Scott Hayward officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial contributions be made to the United Methodist Church in Stow, 4880 Fishcreek Road, Stow, OH 44224.
