Larry G. DeLong, 77, passed away June 9, 2013|
Born in St. Mary's, West Virginia, Larry has lived in Akron for most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves and retired from Acme in 1997 after 44 years of service. Larry was an auxiliary Police Officer for the City of Tallmadge, and also worked for Firestone Country Club. He was a member of the Barberton Moose.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Dora DeLong; sister, Christena; brothers, Sherdian, John, Robert, Junior; brother-in-law, Jim McColgan. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carolyn; son, Gregory (Betsy) DeLong of Akron; and grandsons, Anthony and John DeLong; sisters, Lillian Kuhn, and Eillen Cronin; brother, James Delong; sister-in-law, Pat McColgan.
The family would like to thank everyone at Essex Nursing Home for all the good and loving care they gave him, he appreciated everyone there. Cremation has taken place at Larry's request and there will be no visiting hours or service. He wanted all of his friends to say goodbye to him in their own and private way. Larry wanted to thank his very special friend and helper, Bill Harris.
