1927 - 2013 Obituary Condolences
Bebe (Green) Webner Obituary
Bebe (Green) Webner

Bebe (Green) Webner, 86, died on September 8, 2013, in Akron, Ohio.

She was born February 2, 1927 in Columbus, Ohio. Bebe graduated from Shaker Heights High School, and attended Ohio Wesleyan University, where she met and married her husband of forty years, Anthony (Tony) Wayne Webner II. A proud resident of Akron for nearly six decades. Mrs. Webner volunteered at Akron General Medical Center, and was an active member of Delta Gamma Sorority, and the PTA. Bebe served as office manager for Dr. Guillermo Alfonso, for 25 years and became a close member of the Alfonso Family.

Mrs. Webner was an enthusiastic bridge player, and enjoyed golf and bowling. "Buckeye Bebe" was an avid sports fan with a special love for Ohio State football. She relished wearing scarlet and gray and victories over the despised "Team Up North." She kept a special Ohio State room in her home and regularly wrote to then head coach Jim Tressel to offer words of encouragement and occasionally, some coaching advice. Her unwavering support of the Buckeyes earned her mention in a Sports Illustrated article; in Austin Murphy's book, Saturday Rules: A Season with Trojans and Domers (and Gators and Buckeyes and Wolverines); and several pieces in the Akron Beacon Journal.

Mrs. Webner was a former member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony (Tony) Wayne Webner II, and her sister, Jane Green, her brother Bob Green, and her parents, Henry and Elizabeth Green. Bebe is survived by her son, Anthony (Tony) Wayne Webner III, his wife Polly Webner, of Ontario, California; her grandchildren, Kaitie Webner, Sarah Webner, and Megan Herring; her great-grandsons, Fletcher and Zaidan Herring; her sister, Dolly Cua of Las Vegas, Nevada; and her beloved family of sister and brother-in-laws; nephews, nieces, and grand-nephews and nieces, in California, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, South Carolina, and Washington, D.C.

To honor wishes Bebe's cremation has taken place. A service of celebration will take place on Saturday, October 12, at 11 a.m., at the University of Akron's Infocision Stadium, 5th Floor/1st Merit Club Level.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bebe's name to Delta Gamma Foundation, 3250 Riverside Dr. Columbus, OH, 43221; Ohio Wesleyan Fund, University Advancement Office, Mowry Alumni Center, Ohio Wesleyan University, 61 S.
