Robert E. Cochran|
Robert E. Cochran, age 89, met his Savior in Heaven October 1, 2013.
Born in Lakemore, he graduated from Springfield High School in 1942. Mr. Cochran served in the U.S. Army Infantry E.T.O. as a Technical Sgt. during World War II. He then graduated from Kent State University with a B.S.Ed. degree in 1949 and began teaching and coaching at Lake Local Schools. He attained his M.S.Phys.Ed. in 1960, and continued as a teacher, coach, athletic director and O.W.E. coordinator for Lake Local Schools until his retirement in 1981. Mr. Cochran was inducted into the Ohio State Track Coaches Hall of Fame in 1972 and the Lake Athletic Hall of Fame in 1994. He was a charter member of The Chapel in Marlboro.
Preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Marie; sisters, Florence and Louise; brothers, Edwin, Walter and Herbert; and grandson, Jonathan Truza; Robert is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, M. Jolene; son, Rev. Joel (Serena) Cochran; daughters, Susan (Leisure) Yu and Roberta (Mike) Young; grandchildren, Robert and Timothy Cochran, Joelle (Gregory) Stine, David, Meghan and Jennifer Yu, and Kara (Jake) Evans; and great-granddaughter, Zoe Evans.
The family would like to thank Dr. Charles Chen, Community Hospice of Stark County and its staff, and personal caregivers, Lisa Rowland and Betty McCrone.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, 4 p.m. at The Chapel in Marlboro, 8700 Edison St. NE, Marlboro-Louisville, OH 44641 with Rev. Joel Cochran officiating. Private burial will take place Monday at Hillside Memorial Park. Friends may call at the CHURCH from 2 to 5 p.m. on Friday, and also from 1 p.m. until service time on Saturday.
