William J. "Bill" Choban

William Joseph Choban, 87, passed away on October 20, 2013 after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

William was born April 5, 1926 to Joseph and Elizabeth (nee Foldery) Choban in Akron, Ohio. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during both World War II and the Korean War. He enjoyed spending time coaching baseball and watching his children and grandchildren at their sporting events. He also spent his time woodworking and tending to his rose garden; and was never afraid of a "Mr. Fix-it" project. He lived in the Akron/Wadsworth area his entire life, retired from General Motors/TEREX Division in Hudson and attended Mt. Zwingli United Church of Christ in Wadsworth. William married Joann (nee Hahn) on July 11, 1953, and they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

William was preceded in death by his parents and sister Janet Porter.

William is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Joann; children, Karen (Dave) DeHaan of Bluefield, W.Va., Diane (Jeff) Sponsler of Wadsworth, Larry Choban of Aurora, Debbie Miller (Terry Bryant), David Choban; grandchildren, Kevin, Kirk, Jennifer (Dan), Sara, Melissa, Lindsay, Jordan, Brent, Kyle, Lauren, Brady; great-grandchildren, Mason, Riley, Kasen; step-mother, Evelyn Choban; half-brothers, Jim and Joe; half-sisters, Linda, Mary Lou, and Rosie.

Friends may call at Bacher Funeral Home, 3250 Greenwich Rd., Norton on Thursday, October 24, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. where services will be held on Friday, October 25, 2013 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Keith Hejnal officiating. Burial at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Zwingli United Church of Christ, 2172 S. Medina Line Rd., Wadsworth, OH 44281 or to Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Rd., Copley, OH 44333.

The Choban family would like to extend special thanks to Barberton Regency Hospital and to the Hospice Care Center.
