William David Griffiths Jr.

William David Griffiths Jr. was born October 15, 1943 in Akron, Ohio and passed away December 15, 2013 after a long battle with COPD.

"Bill" was the son of Anne and William; and brother to Anne Griffiths and Ellen Kerr; and brother to the late Herbert Griffiths. Bill was the loving husband of Sam (Linda Marie); the father of William Griffiths III "Jack"; he was the proud stepfather of Britt (Jaime) Vanchura II, Janet Kerr (Justin Reed) and Michele (Jimmy) Whorton; proud grandfather of Caroline, John, Elizabeth, Henry, Danielle Vanchura and Juliet Whorton.

Bill was a graduate of The University of Akron. He subsequently served his country as a Peace Corp-Vista volunteer.

Bill also had served as a MP in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He worked as a designer draftsman for several engineering firms, including Jones Engineering and Noe, Bryer and Miller. He was a member of VFW Post 1062 and the American Legion Charles Faust Post 281.

Bill also volunteered for many years on the bridge at the All American Soap Box Derby.

A warm and caring friend to all, his mischievous smile and shining blue eyes will be missed by many, most of all by his loving family.

The family is deeply appreciative for the wonderful care Bill received in the Acute Palliative Care Unit at Summa Akron City Hospital.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 on Wednesday at the Ciriello and Carr Falls Chapel, 810 Portage Tr., 44221. Procession to form at the funeral home at 9 a.m. Thursday, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Norton. Interment 2:30 p.m. at Western Reserve National Cemetery; for those attending, please meet at the funeral home at 1:30. If desired, donations in Bill's memory may be made to Norton Fire and EMS for the kindness and caring they showed through Bill's illness.
