ORRVILLE -- Anthony J. Yonto, age 92, of Orrville, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2014, at Brenn-Field Nursing Center following a period of declining health.
He was born on February 16, 1921, in Orrville, the son of David and Mary (Muzzi) Yonto, and was united in marriage to Helen Wesier on December 1, 1945, in Orrville. She survives. He was a 1938 graduate of Orrville High School and received his bachelor's degree from John Carroll University in 1942. While at John Carroll, he was a member of the football team for four years.
Following his graduation from John Carroll University, he returned to Orrville to work at the Quality Castings Co., where he started the magnesium foundry in 1942. He later succeeded H. C. Nicholas as president of Quality Castings Co. in 1950. Anthony remained the president and chief executive officer of Quality Castings Co. until his death.
His professional activities included membership in Profit Sharing Council of America, Gray Iron Founders Association, as well as being a founding member of the Ohio Cast Metals Association.
Anthony was a member of the first United Way Board in Orrville, and was a member of the founding committee to bring Akron University's first branch campus, Wayne College, to Orrville. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, and a founding member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Agnes.
He was a former Alumnus of the Year at Orrville High School and was previously inducted into the Orrville High School Sports Hall of Fame.
He was a former member and president of the Orrville Rotary Club, former member of the board of directors at First Merit Bank in Akron, and member of the Sharon Golf Club.
In addition to his wife, Helen, he is survived by one son, Dave (Kathy) Yonto of Orrville; grandchildren, Nick (Jessica) Yonto and Steve Yonto; great-grandchild, Claire Yonto; sister-in-law, Betty Yonto of South Bend, Ind.; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joe Yonto; and a sister, Dorothy Davis.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Orrville on Friday, January 31, 2014, at 11 a.m., with Fr. Ronald Turek officiating. Burial will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville.
