Betty Lou Mathew, 90, passed away March 1, 2014.
Betty was born October 9, 1923 to the late Harold and Pearl Lantz in Philippi, W.Va. She attended the University of Akron and was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority before serving as a Seaman First Class in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. After the service Betty married Richard Mathew and attended Kent State University. Later she became a well known realtor in the Akron area and a Summit County Board of Elections official. Betty was a member of Lockwood United Methodist Church.
Betty was preceded in death by her brothers, Hugh, Clark and Harold, Jr. and sister, Genevieve. She is survived by daughters, Cassandra Mathew and Pamela Chevalier; grandchildren, Max, Nekeya, Deltablue Chevalier; great-grandchildren, Rachael Lynn, Taylor, Trenton, Derek and Charlie Chevalier; brother, Robert Lantz; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd., Akron, OH 44319 (SR 619) with Pastor Scott Pugh officiating. Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at East Liberty Cemetery where military honors will be performed by VFW Post 3383. Memorial contributions can be made in Betty's name to the
