MUNROE FALLS -- Natalie R. Stemple, R.N., (Yankovich), 73, passed away April 6, 2014.
She graduated in 1958 from Rootstown High School, attended The University of Akron and graduated from the Idabelle Firestone School of Nursing in 1961.
Natalie first met Lenny Stemple in 1963, dated for seven years and were married in 1970. Nat and Lenny were literally inseparable! They enjoyed "hanging out" together and loved to eat out at many favorite restaurants. They spent many years traveling within the U.S. and Europe. Natalie also loved her gardening, working in her back yard and sitting on her deck enjoying nature.
She retired in 2000 after 39 years of service from Akron City Hospital and later, Summa Health System. Natalie initiated her career as a staff nurse in the Intensive Care Unit. Her leadership and administrative capabilities were quickly recognized. She has supported Summa Health System in the roles of: Assistant Head Nurse, Head Nurse, Shift Supervisor, Clinical Coordinator, Clinical Supervisor, Acting Director of Nursing, Director of Critical Care Division, and Administrative Director of Critical Care, Material Management, and Medical Engineering Services. Natalie was a strong advocate for patient rights. She served on numerous boards and community leadership organizations. She was also a member of one of the first dragon boating teams for breast cancer survivors called The Dragon Dream Team. Upon retirement from Summa Health System, Natalie began her second career as Director of Marketing with American Medical Response and Smith Ambulance.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Helen Yankovich; brothers, Melvin and Thomas Yankovich; sister, Pauline Richards, brother in law, Donald Richards; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Yankovich and Mildred Yankovich.
She is survived by her husband, Leonard N. Stemple; brothers, Walter Yankovich, D.D.S. (Retired) and Mark (Sally) Yankovich; sister-in law, Gloria Yankovich; special friend, Doug Dix; and her beloved cats, Gizmo and Edsel; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014 at the Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave. (On the Historical Tallmadge Circle) with Mike Nichols officiating. Interment will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
