Gary Byard, 81, passed away peacefully May 31, 2014. Gary was born in Gip, West Virginia on January 9, 1933 to the late Homer and Lola Byard. After graduating from East High School Gary eloped with his high school sweetheart, Nancy Reed, on February 9, 1952.
Gary served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and upon his return began his family and his profession in sales. Gary was employed for 34 years at Akron Standard Mold. In 1985, with the help, guidance and support of friends and family Gary opened the Akron Ex-Im Sales Co. Because of the many friendships Gary had established in the tire industry, Akron Ex-Im continues today. Gary was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast and loved spending time with his family and friends.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Nancy; sons, Gary (Judi), David (Pok) and Robert (Suzann); daughters, Julie (George) Benedum and Jenny (Stef) Colas; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brothers, Glenn Byard and Marvin (Sandy) Byard.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2014 at the Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd., Akron, OH 44319 (SR 619) with Pastor Mike Castelli officiating. Family and friends may call on Thursday, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Hillside Memorial Park.
