Stephen Wiegand Obituary

Stephen M. Wiegand

STOW -- Stephen M. Wiegand, 67, passed away on June 14, 2015 at his home.

Steve was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to Robert and Esther Wiegand on December 5, 1947. He went to high school at Central Catholic High School and graduated in 1966. He was a Vietnam War Veteran who received a National Service Defense Medal with three Bronze Service Stars and a Vietnam Campaign Medal with a 60 Device Combat Infantryman Badge. After the war, he went on to earn a degree in Computer Programming Technology from Purdue in 1978. He worked as an Application Programmer at Fidelity International Services, Inc. for 35 years where he had the opportunity to travel extensively.

He enjoyed spectator sports and was an avid Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions fan. He enjoyed music tremendously and has collected over 500 albums in all genres and attended live performances whenever possible. He was an activist in many rights, including animal rights and a true environmentalist. He requested a "green" burial, a natural method of burial that allows a natural decomposition from the use of a biodegradable casket to the earth. He often donated to charitable organizations including World Wildlife Fund. He was also very involved in activities at his Church, Holy Family in Stow. He was a fierce friend, father and role model to many who had the privilege of knowing him.

Steve is survived by his wife, Bonnie Wiegand, of Stow, OH; daughter, Kimberly Wiegand of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; son, Shawn Wiegand, of Largo, Florida; daughter, Selena Wiegand, of Angola, Indiana; daughter, Tanya Wiegand, of Chicago, Illinois; and four grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church where friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow at Silver Springs Cemetery in Stow. Memorial donations may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, 3179 Kent Rd, Stow, OH 44224.

I only knew Steve (SkippyPB) from the Usenet Tiger and Pistons group. I rightly perceived him to be a decent and good man that will be sorrily missed. RIP, Skippy!
