Richard J. Jackoboice

AKRON- Richard J. Jackoboice, 65, passed away October 17, 2006 surrounded by his loved ones.

He was Music Director and Conductor of the Freedom Brass Band, and was active throughout the country as a conductor, adjudicator and arranger for many years. He graduated from the University of Michigan with both Bachelor and Master of Music degrees where he played for six years under Dr. William D. Revelli. He studied advanced conducting under Karl Osterreicher at the Vienna Academy of Music in Vienna, Austria. Mr. Jackoboice served as Assistant Director of Bands at both Cornell University and the University of Minnesota. He came to the University of Akron in 1967 where he served as Professor of Music and Director of Bands. From 1985 through 1987 he served as coordinator of the undergraduate music division in the University's School of Music. He was conductor at the Revelli International School of Music in Montreux/Glion, Switzerland. Richard was also Dean of Music and special conductor at the International Education Institute at the University of Exeter, England. He appeared as guest conductor with several orchestras and concert bands.

Preceded in death by parents Edward and Mildred; he is survived by wife Karin; daughters Mary Christine (Lloyd) Bigney, Catherine Ann (Randall) VanScoy, Elizabeth Ann (Richard) Ridings, Sara Kay (Terry) Stanoch, Jennifer Ann (Brian) Diaz, Rebecca Marie Jackoboice; brother Edward James (Sandra) Jackoboice of Grand Rapids, Mi.; brother-in-law Barry P. (Joy) O'Malley; grandchildren Michael, Lindsey and Amanda Bigney; Gabrielle, Drew and Halle VanScoy; Megan and Andy Ridings; Kelsey, John, Katelyn, Kendall and Kara Stanoch; nephews Michael and Timothy Jackoboice.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 TODAY at the Dunn Quigley Ciriello & Carr Fairlawn Chapel (39 S. Miller Rd.) and Friday 1 to 3 and 6 to 9. Mass of Christian burial Saturday 9:30, St. Hilary Catholic Church. Entombment Rose Hill Cemetery.
