Elbert Emerson Eckert, age 86, of Ravenna, passed away Friday, December 14, 2007, at the Woodlands at Robinson.
Born January 26, 1921, in Ravenna, a son of the late Emerson C. and Gertrude Mae (Heller) Eckert, Elbert was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Ravenna. Mr. Eckert was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II and received many medals, including the Purple Heart. He operated the family farm on Lovers Lane for many years, and was employed by Davey Compressor in Kent and Rotec in Ravenna and Aurora. Elbert was also a member of the Masonic Temple of Ravenna--Unity Lodge 12, the Akron Grotto, the Ravenna Order of Eastern Star, and the Ravenna V.F.W. Post 1055.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 65 years, Grace Dean (Turpin) Eckert; his children, Roberta (Gale) Mowen of Ravenna, Mary (Roy) Dailey of Ravenna, Carolyn Sue Davis of Ravenna, Thomas (Debbie) Eckert of Franklinton, La.; daughter-in-law, Janet Eckert of Ravenna; also survived by 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, James Eckert, brother, Clayton Eckert, sisters, Lila Hunsicker and Elda Hurd.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., with a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m. at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, where funeral services will be officiated by Pastor Scott Purdum on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. I met you in school (RHS) when you came from TWP and I came from West Main School. In the fall of 1941 you introduced me to Virginia (we were married in 1944).
Don't know what corn you grew but know it was the best in the area.
You have a nice family and many friends. All will miss you.
