Velma CARMICHAEL Obituary

CARMICHAEL, Velma Irene May 15, 1915 - May 15, 2014 It is with much sadness that we have to announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Velma Irene Carmichael (nee Lunty). She was born in Sycamore, Alberta on May 15, 1915 and died peacefully in the morning of May 15, 2014 - the day of her 99th birthday. Mom was the matriarch of her very large family. She was predeceased by her husband, Maurice, on December 7, 1996. She was also predeceased by 4 brothers (Vern, Wayne, Lindy, and Glen - all Luntys), 2 sisters (Iris Thibault and Pat Kneeland), 1 sister-in-law (Alice Lunty) and 2 brothers-in law (Bob Kneeland and Leon Thibault). Mom is survived by her two sons, David (Joanne) and Hugh (Joan) all of Kelowna, four grandsons, Brian (Kim) of Courtenay, Ken (Delta), Brent (Tasha) all of Kelowna and David (Shawna) of Cranbrook. Mom was thrilled to have 8 wonderful great grandchildren (Olivia, Kaden, Sydney, Elliot, Lachlan, Kiera, Mira, and Shea) who she loved with all her heart. She is also survived by two brothers, Wally (Doris) Lunty of Edmonton and Garth (Marj) Lunty of Forestburg, Alberta, 3 sisters-in-law, (Irna and Dorothy Lunty in Forestburg, and Edith Lunty in Sedgewick, Alberta) and many special nieces and nephews as well. Mom let each of us know we were special to her. We are all left with many happy memories of her and we are certainly going to miss her great hugs! The family wishes to express thanks to Dr. Ron Gore who tended to her needs for many years and to all of the staff on the Calder Court at the Cottonwoods Care Facility who gave Mom such wonderful care and attention. There will be no formal service at Mom's request but the immediate family will gather privately in the near future in Mom's honour. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to should donate to the CNIB, Cottonwoods Care Facility or a charity of their choice in Mom's memory. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.mem.com and searching her name under stories. Arrangements entrusted to First Memorial Funeral Services, Kelowna, BC, (250) 762-2299.
