SHIRLEY HINCHEY Obituary

December 20, 1934 - October 05, 2012 OKLAHOMA CITY Shirley was born December 20, 1934 in Ft. Smith, AR, grew up for a time in Seminole, OK and then moved to Fairfax, OK where she lived with her parents Mozelle and R.M. "Doc" Kriewitz. Graduating from Fairfax High School as a member of the tennis team, Shirley went to Oklahoma A&M College (OSU) where she received a BS in Education in 1956. She became a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, starting a legacy that would continue for almost 60 years as her daughters and a granddaughter in turn became "Thetas." While living in the "Theta" house Shirley met Robert "Keith" Hinchey, a SAE fraternity member, who served as a houseboy at the Theta house. They married June 12, 1955 and lived in Stillwater until their graduation when Keith began his service in the army, later taking them to Virginia. The first of their four children, Kevin and Carrie, were born while at Fort Belvore, VA. They returned to Oklahoma City in 1958 where Michael and Mary were soon born. Shirley began a lifetime of service as she became involved with Junior Hospitality (serving as President), Boy Scouts of America (Parent Leader), The Education and Employment Ministry (TEEM) (Chairman of the board and Member), OSU Alumni Association, and Thursday Book Club (President). She attended Bible Study Fellowship and loved getting together with the Taco Bell Belles after each Wednesday class and continuing to meet until recent weeks. Shirley and Keith joined First United Methodist Church in downtown OKC, upon their return to Oklahoma but soon moved their family to May Avenue United Methodist Church and met their church family as members of the Beacon Class. Shirley was an active member and volunteer at May Avenue United Methodist Church where she established and managed the Mobile Meals Program for over 20 years. Shirley loved celebrating holidays and getting the family together for sit down meals, always having the table set at least a week in advance. To her children and grandchildren's pleasure, Mom/Grandma never forgot a birthday, scheduling a day of shopping and dining to pick out just the right gift for the birthday boy or girl and sharing a favorite meal. She established many Holiday family traditions our family cherishes including her unique stocking stuffer sacks at Christmas and tasty candy bags at Easter. We want to thank her caregivers at Physicians Choice Hospice-Tessa, Christine, Heather, and Mark, and Donnita with Home Instead who provided such loving care for our mom. Shirley leaves behind her husband of 57 years, Keith; son Kevin and wife Sherry Hinchey, grandchildren Sara and Tyler Siems, Malia Hinchey and Stephen Hinchey; daughter Carrie and husband Hugh Brower, grandchildren Michael Freeman, Paige Buchanan, Seth and Cy Brower; son Michael and wife Carey Hinchey, grandchildren Ryan and Rachel Hinchey; daughter Mary and husband Tom Lippert, grandchildren Caitlin and Shelby Lippert; cousin but more like a brother, Louis Richard Powell and wife Maryl her sister-in-law LaDena and husband George Mills and sister-in-law Sue Ellen and husband Sam Windsor and their families. Departing before mom, her dear daddy Doc, mother Mozelle, aunt Ruth and uncle Al Calorie, aunt Mary and uncle Bob Self, and grandson Brandon Lippert. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2012, at 1:00pm, at May Avenue United Methodist Church, NW 25th and N. May Avenue. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to: Mobile Meals of OK County, 6051 N. Brookline, OKC, OK 73112.

Dear Hinchey Family,
So sorry to read about your Moms passing. We were all together in school at NWC and your grandparents lived on Colechester Ct in Surrey by my parents. Ironically, my Mother passed away Sunday Oct 14th and her services were the 17th. I will keep your family in my prayers and wish you peace.

What a precious friend Shirley has been through the years! I shall miss her very, very much. But, it is a joy to know her children--at least a little! Thank you for your amazing care for her and help to Keith through Shirley's last weeks with us!
May God comfort you in this difficult time, and may you remember her smile, kindness, and caring ways through the years to come!
