DOROTHY SCHWANINGER Obituary

August 7, 1929 - November 4, 2012 YUKON Dorothy Darlene Schwaninger, 83, was born Aug. 7, 1929, in Fremont, NE to Charles and Bessie (Chitty) Wilson. She passed away Nov. 4, 2012 at her home in Yukon. On Nov. 20, 1948, Dorothy married Robert Lee Schwaninger in Lincoln, NE. Dorothy and her family moved from Lincoln, NE to Yukon in April of 1960. In the mid-60's she served as the Church Secretary at the First United Methodist Church in Yukon, where she was also a member. She was active in many ministries at FUMC. She was a Western Electric "Hello, Charlie" girl in Lincoln, NE. She was Vice President and Chapter President of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was also in charge of the ladies' activities at Telephone Pioneers. At Western Electric in Nebraska, her nickname was Breezy, as she shot the breeze with everyone at the plant. Not long after relocating to the OKC plant, her new nickname was Windy, for the same reason. Her exceptional organizational skills, led to her to being an Executive-on-loan from AT&T to United Way, which is an honor. Her charm and magnetic personality endeared her with friends from all walks of life, to this day and forever. She was a perfectionist in all that she did, from Holiday decorations, home decor to attire. She had a great sense of humor, she had to because of her trust in human nature, she was the brunt of many of jokes and she always took it with a laugh. Dorothy enjoyed hosting Marine Corps reunions, serving as Den Mother for Pack #395, and vacations and travel with her family. She was an impeccable housekeeper and cook. First and foremost, she was Mom, the queen of her castle and let there be no doubt, it was her castle. When Dad answered the phone, he always answered, "Dorothy's place". Her family was always first and foremost and still is, as we now have a guardian angel in Heaven, which is now a little better organized. She is survived by her husband of almost 64 years, Bob Schwaninger of the home; sons, Robert Wayne Schwaninger and James Lee Schwaninger, both of Yukon; brother, Gene Wilson of Lincoln, NE; sisters, Patsy Bartlett and husband Arnie, Peggy Sharp and husband Roger, Evelyn Barzydlo, Charlotte Foster and husband Ken all of Lincoln, NE, Betty Dahl of Kokomo, IN, and Anita Porter and husband Leo of Waneta, NE; and grandchildren, Elizabeth Schwaninger and Robert Lee Schwaninger. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Bob Wilson; and daughter-in-law, Rose Mary Schwaninger. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Thur., Nov. 8, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church of Yukon. Interment will follow at Yukon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothy's name to: The First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 400 Elm, Yukon, OK 73099. Online condolences may be signed at www.yandafuneral.com
