BARNEY, CHELYNE - Edmond
July 19, 1949 - July 29, 2015 EDMOND A Memorial Service for Chelyne Anne Barney, 66, will be held in the chapel of Edmond's Matthews Funeral Home at 10 a.m. on August 3, 2015. Her cremains will be interred in the Barney family plot at Edmond's Gracelawn Cemetery immediately following the Memorial Service. Chelyne was born July 19, 1949, in Milwaukee, WI to John Haesle and Marise Haesle, who predeceased her. She grew up in Wausau, WI as the oldest of four children. They remember her as a gorgeous redhead, with a temper to go with it, and a flair for style she developed at an early age. The family later moved to Pampa, TX and opened an A&M Root Beer Stand, where all of the siblings worked. A graduate of Pampa High School in the late 60s, she adored the Beatles. She graduated from West Texas State University in the early 70s. Chelyne moved to Edmond, OK from San Antonio, TX in 1980. Along with being a dedicated homemaker, she was active at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and played local competitive tennis. Chelyne later went back to school in the early 90s and finished her master's degree in speech therapy at the University of Central Oklahoma. She became a licensed speech therapist and counselor and worked in both the Stroud and Chandler school systems. Chelyne loved her work, her students and her family and friends deeply. Her ability to care for others seemed infinite, asking family and friends what she could do for them up until her last moments. Chelyne had many hobbies and activities and a deep love for dogs and cats, taking many of both into her home over the years. She was always active in one way or another, from tennis, skiing and running, to Pilates, yoga and, in later life, traveling. Chelyne and Bryan Barney married July 13, 2001, and made their home in Edmond. She is survived by her husband, Bryan Barney, of the home; her son, Jordan Flaniken, wife Megan and son, Sam, of Edmond; three stepchildren, Aaron Barney and Laura Barney, of Edmond; and Jennifer French, husband Corey and children, John and Kalia, of Kihei, HI; two brothers, John Haesle and wife Lelet, of Pampa, TX; David Haesle and wife Carol, of Argyle, TX; sister, Irene Chomicki and husband Joe, of Waxahachie, TX; and mother-in-law, Marjorie Anderson, of Edmond. Memorials may be made to Breast Cancer Research Foundation in Chelyne's name at www.bcrfcure.org

Obituaries from the Past Week

BARKS, DALLAS - Muskogee
March 10, 1937 - July 21, 2015 SPENCER Dallas Wayne Barks went to be with his Lord Tuesday, July 21, 2015. He was born March 10, 1937, in Shook, MO to Charlie O. Barks and Dicy N. (Gilbreath) Barks. He joined the USAF at the age of 16 and served his country in Korea. While in the Air Force, he met and married the love of his life, Donna Mae (Kelly) Barks, while she was working in the clerical department on the base. After his military service, he worked for Keas Superior Bus Sales for over 30 years. After retiring, he worked for James Keas at Sheet Metal Service. When James passed away, he retired again. He also worked as a part-time police officer becoming a major and overseeing the part-time officers at Spencer, OK. After retiring from the SPD, he became an Oklahoma County Sheriff's Deputy and served that department until his final retirement to take care of his wife as her health was failing. In all, he served in law enforcement some forty-eight years, but his entire life has been about service. If you ever met him, you never forgot him. He loved to work, to ride his Harley, to hunt, to fish and just to do for others. He never met a stranger and made friends wherever he went. He was a member of the Spencer Road Freewill Baptist Church, which he loved very much. He is survived by his sons, Danny and wife Sandra and Richard and wife Beth; two grandsons, David and wife Tabitha and Daniel and wife Lindse; and four great-grandchildren, Charlee, Josephine, Deacon, and Emily. He is also survived by a host of brothers and sisters seeing that he was the third born of 21 children and enough family and friends to fill a city. We wish we could acknowledge everyone individually but that would be an impossible task. We hope there is comfort in knowing that you know who you are and we know who you are and we thank God for you. Funeral services honoring Dallas' life will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at Sunnylane Family Church, 4221 S.E. 41st St., Del City, OK 73115, with Pastor Dennis Cariker and Pastor Brian Maynor officiating. Interment will be at the Crossroads Cemetery in Greenville, MO 11 a.m. Saturday, August 1, 2015, with David Barks, Daniel Barks, Melvin Barks, Steve Kremer, Robert Herring, and Don Price serving as pallbearers. Box 449, Warner, OK 74469. Funeral services are under the direction of Cornerstone Funeral Home and Crematory, 1830 North York Street, Muskogee, OK.
