1932 - 2013 DEL CITY
Barbara Jean Barrett, born in Anadarko, OK in 1932, passed onward peacefully in her sleep at 8:46 p.m. on the 27th of June, surrounded by her adoring family. She was preceded on that journey by her parents, Lillie and Albert Holt; her sisters, Jewel, Mary, Doris, Dorothy, and Anita; her brothers, Walter and Buddy; and one son, Larry. She is survived by three sons, Richard, Jr. & wife Sheri, Walter, and Terry, whom she lived with and relied upon; along with eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and two great-great- grandchildren. Her life was fruitful, and her joys were many. Barbara lived life with a zest which astonished all who met her. She loved playing cards and bingo, joyfully officiating holidays, gardening, cooking, telling jokes and spending time with her family. For forty years, she served with honor as a military wife to husband, Richard Barrett, raising four rambunctious sons and teaching them all she knew. When those sons married, she made daughters of her new daughters-in-law and taught them as well. She survived the raising of four boys, the successive losses of her siblings, and breast cancer
, and she did it all with panache. Barbara was: - A lesson in parenting, and living, and hoping, and loving, for all who were privileged to know her. - A saucy, spunky firecracker, who teased and guided and cherished her family. - An inspiration, a comfort, and a needed friend, who will be deeply and reverently grieved. - The beloved matriarch of her family, who are greatly bereaved at her passing, yet triumphing in her glorious life. Many live, but few live well. She was such a one. We'll always love you, Gramma. We were incredibly lucky to have you in our lives. Thank you for being you. Services in celebration of her life will be today at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Moore, with a reception following at 1521 Aspen Drive, Moore, about one mile from the church. Flowers may be sent to the church.
