CARL HILDEBRAND

Jan 21, 1927 - July 26, 2013 TULSA Carl F. Hildebrand, Jr. passed away peacefully on Friday, July 26, 2013, in Tulsa, OK. He was born on January 21, 1927, in Denver, CO to Carl and Reeta Hildebrand. He graduated from Lookeba-Sickles High School (OK) in 1944 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945. He married Barbara C. Rhodes, of Cowden, OK, in 1952. Carl received a bachelor's degree from SWOSU and a master's degree from OU. He was an educator from 1949 to 1990, serving at several schools in western Oklahoma (Cowden, Berlin, Arapaho and Merritt) as a teacher, principal or superintendent until 1961, when he became Jr.-Sr. High School Principal at Western Heights in OKC. He retired after serving over 30 years at Western Heights, his last seven years as Assistant Superintendent. He was very proud of the school, the teachers, students and staff. Carl and his wife, Barbara, moved to Tulsa in 2000 to be closer to their family. He loved his family, who called him "Sonny," and was a dedicated husband, father, son and brother. Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Hildebrand; and his parents, Carl Hildebrand and Reeta Hildebrand. He is survived by his daughter, Diane Arocha and husband Phil, of Tulsa, OK; and his son, Steven Hildebrand and wife Debbie, of Broken Arrow, OK. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren: Melanie Patton, Denver, CO; Greg Patton, Houston, TX; Ashley Lamb and husband Colin, Tulsa, OK; Megan Hildebrand, Broken Arrow, OK; Daniel Hildebrand and wife Cate, OKC, OK; Joey Arocha, Tulsa, OK; and Heather Arocha, San Antonio, TX; his four brothers, Jack Hildebrand and wife Millie, Don Hildebrand and wife Ruby, Jerry Hildebrand and wife Norma, and Ken Hildebrand and wife Helen; four great-grandchildren, and many nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held at Vondel Smith North Colonial Chapel, Oklahoma City, at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2013. A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 31 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Carl & Barbara Hildebrand Scholarship Fund, University of Oklahoma Foundation, which provides scholarships to graduates of Western Heights High School.
