DAVID HOLT

Nov 20, 1922 - Aug 2, 2013 WICHITA, KS David Eugene (Gene) Holt, 90, passed away August 2, 2013, in Wichita, Kansas. He was born November 20, 1922, in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, to William A. Holt and Effie Mae (Kidwell) Holt. Gene served his country proudly in the United States Naval Service during WWII, serving on Guadalcanal and in Okinawa. Subsequent to discharge, he married Ona Mae Pipkin on March 3, 1946. He was employed as a stereotypist and pressman for several newspapers in both Oklahoma and Texas. He loved shooting pool with his buddies; and upon retirement, he and Ona Mae enjoyed traveling and frequenting state parks and resorts. They spent many winters fifth-wheeling and joining the other "Winter Texans" in the Valley south of the Red River. Gene is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Ona Mae; two sons: Dennis W. Holt and his wife Kinuko, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; and David G. Holt, and one daughter, Vicki B. Heinzman and her husband Stan, both of Wichita, Kansas; four grandchildren: DeAnna (McClannahan) Grimes (Glen), of Pasadena, Texas; Regina Pell (Kenny), of Bells, Texas; Travis J. Heinzman (Bria), of Wichita, Kansas; and Amy M. Warren (Shane), of Casper, Wyoming; five great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents; eldest daughter, Sandra Jean Bannon; one sister, Margaret Odessa Avey; and one brother, Sidney Holt. Funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at the Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, with interment to follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens.
