April 25, 1933 - January 25, 2014 OKLAHOMA CITY
On the morning of Saturday, January 25, 2014, at 80 years of age, Delman Lee Dennis was welcomed into Heaven. He passed away peacefully of natural causes at the Sommerset Assisted Living Facility in Oklahoma City. Delman was born to Marshel Lyle and Edna Clara (Griesel) Dennis, of Pawnee, Oklahoma. As a young man, Delman loved competing in sports. He was passionate about track, football and basketball, pursuits that would stay with him throughout his life. After graduating from Pawnee High School in 1951, Delman joined the United States Army
in 1954 and was selected to serve in the 78th Signal Battalion at Camp Zama, located outside Tokyo, Japan. Delman came back to the States in 1956, where he began to further his education. He graduated from Central State University with a major in accounting and a minor in economics. And he went on to earn his Master of Business Administration from Oklahoma City University. Delman started his professional career at U.S. Gypsum in Watonga, Oklahoma. Two years later in 1963, he started a lifetime career at Western Electric (AT&T) in Oklahoma City. His career there lasted 33 years working as a Business Methods Specialist. During this time, he married Dorothy Lynn Dennis, sharing 39 years together until her death in 2013. Delman was always a man to find a way of achieving what he set out to do, saying throughout his life, "where there is a will, there is a way." He set out to learn how to water ski at the age of 40, fell in love with it and slalom skied until 72 years of age. He was incredibly passionate about The University of Oklahoma football and basketball programs. He was a proud donor and season ticket holder for both programs and enjoyed traveling to numerous bowl games and the annual OU/Texas game for 30+ years. Delman also loved to garden, planting annually a very large garden at the beautiful acreage home he and Dorothy built to share with their family of five children. The family enjoyed the "fruits" of Delman's labor with homemade apple and peach pies, fresh strawberries, watermelon and numerous vegetables throughout the years. Delman's green thumb didn't stop there ... his meticulously manicured acreage was enjoyed every day by the family hosting many parties and was the backdrop for a wedding and professional photographs. Delman was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church for several years. Delman will be missed by those who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy Lynn; his parents; and brother, Robert Dennis. Delman leaves behind his sister, Carma & Bill Jenkins, of Edmond, OK; his children: Steve & Cindy Dennis, of Plano, TX; Ashley & Mark Pino, of Washington, DC; Carie & Lloyd White, Sheri & David Ellis and Marci Scott, all of Oklahoma City, OK; his grandchildren, Marshall, Cameron, Ella, Maxwell, Dara, Amanda, Marsha, Parker, Addison, Tyler, and Laci; seven great-grandchildren; Dennis nieces and nephews and their families, Audrey Neal, Gary Wayne Dennis, Robert Dennis, Karla Jimenez, and Michael Dennis; sisters-in law, Betty Dennis, Diana Crain, and Darla Morgan; St. Luke's Sunday School Class friends, AT&T friends, Pawnee High School classmates, and many others.
