DON HOLDER

Nov. 28, 1925 - Oct. 21, 2013 COOKSON Don (DD) Holder, 87, passed away on October 21, 2013 in Cookson, Oklahoma. He was born November 28, 1925 to Dalton and Myrtle Holder in Sallisaw, OK. He attended school at Badger Lee, Prices Chapel, and Sallisaw Schools. He earned a degree in Diesel Engineering from the US Naval Academy in San Diego, CA. Don served in the US Navy from 1944-1946 and on the LSM 172 US Naval Ship in the South Pacific during the Invasion of Okinawa. He married Arlene Masterson June 6, 1946 and they lived in Oklahoma City for 52 years until her death in July 1998. Don worked for Save Auto Stores and PMA from 1960-1988 and he was a member of Hillcrest Christian Church. In 1998 he moved to Lake Tenkiller and enjoyed spending time on the lake with family and friends. Don also enjoyed playing the guitar and fiddle, riding four-wheelers, and fishing for perch. He married Norma J. Brooks on June 25, 2007. He is survived by his wife, Norma J. Holder; daughter, Laura Burnell and husband Jim; grandchildren, Lyndsie Floyd and husband Scott, and Joe Burnell; great-grandson, Barrett Floyd; and nieces Helen Drake and Barbara Harvell. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Dalton and Myrtle Holder; sister, Kathleen Pinkerton; wife, Arlene Masterson Holder; son, Russell Cordell Holder; and cousin, Myrtle "Sis" Covington. Visitation will be held on Thursday October 24 from noon-8:00pm with the family present from 6:00-8:00pm and Friday October 25 from 8:00am-1:00pm.
