JAMES HALEY

June 10, 1922 - Jan 6, 2013 WHEATLAND James "Jim" Albert Haley, age 90, died Sunday, January 6, 2013, after a short period of failing health. He was born on the family farm east of Lindsay, OK on June 10, 1922, to Harvey Allen and Agnes Lydia (Raidt) Haley and grew up working on the family farm in the Moore and Wheatland areas. At age 13, Jim's family moved from the area, and he chose to stay behind with the John Earnest Caldwell family so he could attend Mustang High School. He was a 1940 graduate of Mustang High School and went to work immediately for Scrivener-Stevens Wholesale Grocers. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942, where he served in the European Theater during WWII. After his discharge, he returned to Scrivener-Stevens and attended the University of Oklahoma. In 1949, he graduated from OU, majoring in accounting. Jim worked over 45 years for Scrivener, Inc., retiring as office manager/accountant in 1986. He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City, was a member of Mustang American Legion, the AMS (Administrative Management Society) and had been very active with the Mustang Alumni Association. He was preceded in death by his parents; and seven brothers, Frank, Antone, Howard, Joe, Charles, Albert and Leonard. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Doris, of the home; one son, David Haley, of Oklahoma City; and one daughter, Susan Potter and husband Dean, of OKC; also survived by four grandchildren: Heather Haley, of OKC; Robert Haley and wife Alisha, of Bartlesville; Justin Potter and wife Rinda, of OKC; and Brian Potter and wife Jessica, of Bethany; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Marcella Dalton, of El Reno; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at First United Methodist Church, downtown OKC, NW 5th and Robinson. Interment will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Wheatland, OK, under the direction of McNeil's Mustang Funeral Service, Mustang, OK. Online condolences may be made at www.mcneilsmustangfs.com
